An urban adventure

By | Joeys, News | No Comments

Most people think of camping, when they think of Scouts. But we also try to enjoy the natural beauty of our local urban environment, such as our recent pre-Kangaree sleepover and “urban hike”.

A great day at the Zoo

By | Joeys, News | No Comments

5th Brunswick Joey Scouts had a fantastic time at Scouts Victoria’s biennial Zoo Day. Armed with our activity books and new Zoo Day badges, we visited the seals at Wild Seas, did the monkey loop, plus experienced butterflies landing on us in the hothouse. Along with plenty of snacks and playtime, it was a different Zoo experience for our Joeys.IMG_7591 IMG_7583 IMG_7585

Tycho to the Moon

By | Joeys, News, Reports | No Comments

We had a great outing to Scienceworks to see “Tycho to the Moon” at the Planetarium which was part of our Space Adventure Challenge program.

After the show we had a play, went to the Nitty Gritty Super city, and visited the excellent Alice in Wonderland exhibit. We even managed to squeeze in a quick stop at Sportsworks.

Ahoy mateys!

By | Joeys, News | No Comments

There were plenty of Pirates but not as much sleeping at the recent District Joey Scout Pirate Sleepover, hosted by Oak Park. The kids played games then made treasure chests, purses for their pirate loot and made their own treasure maps before fish and chips for tea. It was fantastic to see Joey Scouts from all over the District get to know each other and enjoy crafts, games and stories.

Out and about with Joey Scouts

By | Joeys | No Comments

We’ve been out and about in our local area recently with 2 excursions, one to Barkly Square and for a lantern walk down Weston Street.

Fruit & Veggie month at Barkly Square

We visited the fruit and veg departments of a few shops to look at our favourite, and some new, fruits and vegetables. After comparing the cheapest and most expensive fruit & veg, we finished off with a taste test and some hot chips.

Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival (which happens in spring in the Southern Hemisphere) is the second most important observance for China and Vietnam (where it is also known as the Children’s Festival).

To celebrate, we made paper plate lanterns and went on a lantern walk. The kids also tried the traditional Moon Cakes – but they weren’t too popular this year; maybe next year!

Visiting Hope Aged Care

By | Joeys, News | No Comments

Thanks to the amazing staff and gorgeous residents of Hope Aged Care that made our visit such a treat.

The kids shared information about themselves, interviewed the residents, enjoyed a hot supper and contributed to making a shared piece of artwork.

A fantastic part of our Care and Share Challenge.
