Here is a list of minor and some non-minor tasks that need doing around the hall.
These are the kind of jobs that do not need a major working bee and that a parent by himself or herself with or with an assistant or two might undertake as a time that is suitable to them.
The group will be very grateful to any parent who can volunteer their skills and labour or who might be able to get materials donated for these projects.
Replace Wall between Cleaners Closet and Leaders Office
- Demolish existing wall.
- Build new stud wall making provision for the running of plumbing services in the wall cavity.
- Line wall with plasterboard.
Materials: Pine plates and studs, particle board, screws, nails, stud adhesive, bracing strap, plasterboard, jointing tape, jointing goo, snading sheets
Tools: Drop saw, air nailer, hammer, jointing tools, sander.
Skills: Carpentry, ability to read construction drawings, drywall plastering.
Lay Carpet In Leaders Office
- Remove existing carpet.
- Lay underlay (provided)
- Lay new carpet (carpet and smooth edge provided)
- Finish doorway.
Materials: doorway strip and nails. All carpet, underlay and smoothedge has been donated.
Tools: Carpet jointer, strtecher, Hammer
Skills: carpet laying.
Painting
- Paint interior of Leaders Office
- Patch and paint toilet walls
- Patch and paint kitchen
Materials: gap filler, plaster wall filling compound, sanding sheets
Tools: patching blade, sanding holder, paint brushes, roller, pole and tray, drop sheets
Skills: patching and painting.
Hang Scout Awards
- Work out how many dowels are required to mount the existing award pennants.
- Sand and finish dowels and mounting boards.
- Fix award pennants to dowels
- Fix mounting boards to walls.
- Fix dowels to mounting boards
Materials: Sandpaper, Estapol, staples or pins, wall plgs and screws, turps
Tools: drill, sander, paintbrush
Skills: Wood finishing, attention to detail.

Repair pool table
- Fix base to pool table
- Make repairs to folding base.
- Fit wheels for easy relocation of the pool table.

Provide Sound Attenuation Panels in the Rear Hall
- Acquire requisite materials for sound absorbers to design.
- Build sound absorbing panels to design.
- Fix sound absorbers to north wall.
Materials: Steel top-hat battens, 75x35 pine, perforated masonite, fixing screws, encapsulated fibre sound batts, paint
Tools: Power screwdriver, air nailer, panel lifter
Skills: Joinery/timberwork, fixing, painting
Hang Canoes
- Design hanging brackets for fixture to masonry walls and secure canoe holding system (slings or whatever).
- Design canoe hoisting system.
- Build hanging brackets to design.
- Fix hanging brackets to walls.
- Hoist and secure canoes into place.
Materials: Structural steel, pulleys, rope, slings(?), cleats, safety fixings.
Tools: Masonry drill (10mm?), hammer, socket spanners, level, string line.
Skills: Structural engineering design and certification capacity, welding, fixing to masonry, safety consciousness.
Fix Flagpole Brackets
- Paint existing flagpole brackets
- Fix to the wall where directed.
Materials: Brackets (existing), primer, top coat, wall plugs, screws
Tools: Masonry drill (6mm?), hammer, screwdriver
Skills: Painting, measuring, drilling, fixing.
